A man is dead, and a suspect is in custody after a shooting in north Tulsa. It is Tulsa's 51st homicide this year, and police are now looking for more witnesses and a motive.
Around 11:30 Sunday night, police received a call of shots fired at Mi Oficina bar, in the 1800 block of North Lewis.
When Tulsa police arrived on the scene, they found the owner of the bar, 40-year-old Luis Torres, had been shot multiple times.
He later died.
As for the suspect, witnesses say when Jacob Wayne Smith got to the bar, he confronted Torres. An argument then started and Smith ended up shooting Torres and leaving the bar in a silver pickup.
Police caught up with the 30-year-old Smith near 73rd East Avenue and Interstate 244. Smith was bleeding from a head wound, so he was taken to the hospital, treated and then arrested for first degree murder.
He is being held without bond in Tulsa County Jail.
As for the motive, police are not sure, but they suspect it may be drug related.
"We did find another gun out behind the bar and what appears to be drugs at this time, and the indications are that there's been a lot of drug use here," said Captain Shawn King of the Tulsa Police Department.
"It leads me to believe that since the drugs are with the gun, that it may be drug related. Don't know for sure, but it's kind of pointing to that at this point," he said.
Police are still looking for several witnesses, including one man who was shot in the leg. They said the man who was shot in the leg was a regular, but no one knows his name.
Police are asking anyone who has more information to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS or the Homicide Tip Line at 918-798-8477.
