Authorities say a Southern Arkansas University rodeo team member lied when she said that stealing horses from fellow team members was in retaliation for an attempted rape.

Jaci Jackson of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, is charged with felony theft of five horses, riding equipment and a trailer from the SAU stables. She has pleaded not guilty.

The Banner-News first reported that Jackson told a friend that the thefts were because two men on the rodeo team tried to rape her.

Arkansas State Police investigator Hays McWhirter told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that he believes Jackson wanted a relationship with the men and lied about the attempted assault.

Four of the horses were found alive -- but malnourished -- near Tom, Okla.homa, and the fifth was found dead and cut into pieces.
