Today will be the warmest day of the week with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s across northeastern OK. South winds will increase speeds in the 10 to 20 mph range and plenty of sunshine will occur for most of the day. Later this afternoon a strong cold front front will move across the central OK region and will pass the Tulsa metro by 8pm to 10pm tonight bringing much colder air to the region for Friday. The front has already entered northwestern OK this morning and will provide for a cloudy and cool day for the northwestern quadrant of the state. If you're heading to the 6A State Championship game tonight in Stillwater, take the big coat. Temps will be in the 40s for the game along with gusty northwest winds at 10 to 15 mph.
Moisture will attempt to move up and over the front and a few showers will be possible Friday with cloudy conditions and highs in the mid to upper 40s. The boundary may slide back northward Friday evening into Saturday morning as a strong upper level system approaches the four corners region. Moisture is expected to move across the state Saturday with rain likely as highs will slide back into the lower or mid 50s for a few Saturday afternoon before falling into the lower 40s by 7pm Saturday evening.
Sunday morning the rain is leaving the area as the cold air plows southward and this will result in highs Sunday near 40.
A second surge of cold air will arrive Monday and stick around for most of the week. There is some concern that an upper level wave will brush the state Monday evening into Tuesday morning and could produce a little bit of wintry precip for a few hours Tuesday morning, but this chance will remain low. I'll keep a 10% chance for the Monday period for this update cycle.
Regarding the big OU-OSU game Saturday in Stillwater:
Data late yesterday and this morning will support most of the rain exiting the Stillwater area about game time. The cold air will be moving into the Stillwater region and temps will be in the upper 30s for most of the game, but if the data is too be believed as "red letter" the rain will be over as the game begins. We're not ready to wave the flag and declare the rain will be east by 7pm, but the data is trending this direction.
