New Evidence Could Help Crack Tulsa Cold Case

A 1984 cold case is heating up. Tulsa detectives say new evidence is leading them closer to a suspect in the case of murdered TU student Melissa Moore.

If this case is solved, the sad news is, it'll be too late for her parents, because they've already passed away. They desperately wanted answers and suffered greatly over their daughter's death.

Her brother is still alive and lives in Muskogee and has waited a long time for her killer to be held accountable.

Melissa Moore left her friends at the Chi Omega sorority on the TU campus on March 26th, 1984 around midnight and told them she was going home.

She lived in a garage apartment just a few blocks away, but it doesn't appear she ever made it there. Her car was found on East Easton within 24 hours. A neighbor saw a man park it there.

"One of the family members happens to be looking out the window and sees a guy sitting in the car for a few minutes. He locks the door, and then takes off walking," said Detective Eddie Majors, TPD Cold Case Squad.

There was still no sign of Melissa, and it remained that way for about three weeks. Then, workers inspecting bridges found her body in the water, nude from the waist down in Pryor Creek.

She'd been there for some time. The cause of death was drowning. The manner of death was ruled homicide.

"I'm hoping somebody's conscience will kick in. I wasn't able to find any ties to Pryor, why she was there, no friends, anything like that," Detective Majors said.

OSBI took over the case and all this time, no leads. Then--Detective Majors asked if he could take a look at it and now, new evidence is being tested by the lab and he's hoping to finally get some answers.

"People do talk. People do remember and whether they think it's not going to matter. Even if it's insignificant to them, it could be the major part of the puzzle we're trying to piece together," Majors said.
