Happy (Belated) Thanksgiving, everyone! I hope you had a great holiday, survived Black Friday, and aren't sick of turkey leftovers yet. There have been some significant changes in our weather this holiday weekend. Hopefully you managed to enjoy the relatively mild air while it was here earlier on.
A very dynamic upper-level system is sweeping through the region. The accompanying cold front brought us a good, soaking rain to Oklahoma. In fact, some places received nearly an inch and a half of rain! Shown in the map above, nearly every location in Green Country had a respectable amount of water in the rain bucket.
The rain is out of here, but the cold air is just settling in. This system will become cut off from the main flow of the jet stream and keep unseasonably cool air entrenched in the southern Plains and the Deep South. Believe it or not, portions of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Tennessee may see flakes of snow flying in a day or two as a deep, cold, moist layer of air sets up over that region. Brrrr! I'm personally glad we aren't talking snow just yet in Oklahoma.
There may not be snow here, but temperatures won't be warming up all that much for quite awhile. We've reached that point in the year where days in the 70s and even 60s are very fleeting and sub-freezing temperatures at night become the norm. With the warmest readings only in the 50s this week, you'll want to break out all the various layers of clothing for the cold season.
A few reinforcing shots of cool air will arrive in the form of dry cold fronts this week. Our next chance of rain won't likely come until the weekend. College football fans would agree the timing isn't exactly ideal with the upcoming Bedlam game. But, hey, doesn't a cold rain fall under the umbrella of good football weather?
Until then, enjoy the brisk air. It might be just enough to put us in the holiday spirit!
