The next big system is located to our west this morning but the impacts are being felt across Oklahoma with strong gusty south winds reported in many locations. Winds will be from the south in the 15 to 30 mph range today, with some higher gusts located across central and western OK where wind advisories are posted for the day.
Temperatures will be problematic today as the low stratus deck is currently in place across eastern OK. If the clouds stick around all day, we'll be in the lower 60s, but even a few breaks could bring us into the upper 60s. Yesterday's stratus deck destroyed our temperature forecast by over 12 degrees in some locations! I'll shoot low today with highs around 64 and will expect a mostly cloudy day.
The cold front will arrive across our area (Eastern OK) after midnight into the early morning hours Saturday with rain and storms likely. We are not expecting severe weather due to the lack of "quality moisture" and the lack of instability in the atmosphere. The dynamics of the system are strong but will be slightly north of the state, while the deeper moisture will be located well to our south across Texas.
The temperatures Saturday are expected to be on the chilly side with morning readings in the lower or mid 50s dropping into the upper 40s by late in the afternoon. Gusty northwest winds from 15 to 30 mph will be common and the clouds will slowly erode from the northwest to the southeast.
Sunday appears Sunny and cool with morning lows in the upper 20s and highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s across eastern OK.
Another front will arrive Tuesday, and then a second surge of cold air will blow through the area Thursday. Both of these systems should arrive with only a few clouds but no precipitation will be expected.
I have discounted the EURO solution of cutting off the H5 low east of the state Tuesday morning.
