We're looking at another very nice afternoon with highs in the upper 60s or lower 70s across northern Ok with temps in the upper 70s near 80 likely across southern sections of the state. There will remain a slight chance of showers or storms later this evening rain and storms likely Tuesday across southeastern and east central OK. The Tulsa area will be on the northern fringe of the rain chances today and tomorrow.
If you'll recall, last week we were attempting to track a west coast system. The system was being modeled with various solutions including high pops for the state for Monday and Tuesday. I mentioned last week how the system was not being modeled correctly in the upper air system because of its position over the Pacific. This weekend the system began moving more eastward and was subsequently captured more realistically in the upper air data. I still don't think it's sampled correctly, but will be later today as it moves eastward. The current result is the models keeping most of the system to our south and southeast, which is also what we're forecasting for the system. We'll keep a slight mention of a shower or storm along or behind the boundary today, and a chance of some showers or storms near Tulsa tomorrow with rain likely across southern Ok and north Texas.
The front will slide over Tulsa around noon today and stall across the southern part of the state. As the low currently near the Baja lifts eastward, the front will more than likely move back to our north later tonight. This means temperatures Tuesday will move back into the upper 60s near 70 before falling Tuesday afternoon as the boundary finally gets a big shove southward bringing much colder air to the region Wednesday and Thursday.
This pattern of bringing a southern stream system across the plains while phasing a medium or short wave trough across the northern stream will continue for the next week or so allowing for another chance of showers or storms in about 5 to 6 days. This pattern may also persist for the rest of the month into early December.
We have noticed some seasonably cold air developing across the northwestern Canadian and Yukon regions, but there appears to be very little cross polar flow that would drive this air mass southward into the central or southern plains.
Earthquakes:
It was a relatively quiet weekend compared to the previous one.
A 2.9 mag was detected Friday at 7:18pm.
A 3.0 mag was detected Sunday at 3:49am.
And a 3.3 mag was detected Sunday at 11:31pm.
These small earthquakes were basically centered northeast of Shawnee OK.
I'll continue to use Twitter as a means of fast communication regarding information about earthquakes and you're more than welcome to follow me on twitter. FYI- I will also follow you back!
