The candidate filing period for both Sullivan's House District 71 seat and Rice's Senate District 46 seat will be from December 5 through December 7. A special primary election -- if needed -- will be February 14, 2012, and a special general election would be April 3, 2012.

If a primary election is unnecessary, the general election will be held on February 14, 2012.

Sullivan is resigning to become the director of the Oklahoma Grand River Dam Authority. Rice is giving up his seat and moving to Tennessee, where his physician wife has accepted a position.
