There isn't any time to waste. If you have a shot at a district title you can't afford a loss with just two games left. Our game of the week is one of the best matchups you'll see all season long but it's not the only potential thriller. Here is a look at the Top 5 matchups from around the state this week:
5. Coweta Tigers 4-4 (3-2) at Central Braves 7-1 (4-1)
This game is pivotal for both squads when it comes to playoff positioning. The Tigers can make a big move up the ranks by beating the Braves. Coweta lost to district-leading Pryor 7-0 at home last week. The Braves are tied with East Central for second in 5A-4, but the Cardinals hold the tie breaker over Central. Coweta can shake up the race with a win on Friday. That victory could bump the Braves back to fourth in the district.
4. Verdigris Cardinals 7-1 (4-1) at Kellyville Ponies 5-3 (3-2)
Kellyville surprised some people with its 4-1 start. Since then, they've gone 1-2 and barely beat struggling Blackwell last week, 30-28. They can shock a lot of people around 3A by upending the Cardinals this weekend. Verdigris lost for the first time last week when they visited Metro Christian. They play winless Westville in the season finale. If the Cardinals can down the Ponies, they will most likely secure the No. 2 seed in the district standings.
3. Douglass Trojans 6-2 (4-1) at Glenpool Warriors 5-3 (5-0)
The Warriors started the season 0-3. Since then they've reeled off five straight wins and all of them have been district games. Douglass can disrupt Glenpool's winning streak and status as the 4A-2 front runners with a road win Friday night. Douglass' only district loss this year came at Cushing three weeks ago, 16-7. Glenpool is scoring 40 points per game in district games.
2. Checotah Wildcats 7-1 (4-0) at Beggs Demons 7-1 (5-0)
The only reason this one isn't the game of the week is because of the championship tradition that's in jeopardy at Jenks. Checotah has scored at least 35 points in every district game this season. Beggs' closest margin of victory was 19 points against Victory Christian. If Beggs wins, they win the district. The Wildcats have one district game to play in the season finale but, I they beat the Demons, they'll win the district based on tie breaker possibilities.
1. Jenks Trojans 7-1 (5-0) at Broken Arrow Tigers 7-1 (5-0)
Could this be the year that Broken Arrow breaks through? Jenks and Union have been on top of 6A for the past decade and a half. The Tigers have gotten close, but have never been able to overtake those two teams. Earlier this year, the Tigers lost to Union on the road, 21-14. That was a good early test and prepared them for this de facto district title game. Barring an epic collapse to an inferior opponent in Week 10, the winner of this game will wear the 6A-3 crown.
JUST MISSED THE CUT:
Norman Tigers 6-2 (3-2) at Muskogee Roughers 3-5 (3-2)
Sperry Pirates 3-4 (2-2) at Cascia Hall Commandos 8-0 (4-0)
Bishop Kelley Comets 5-2 (3-1) at Skiatook Bulldogs 3-4 (1-3)
