TULSA, Oklahoma -- In a battle of unbeatens in District 2A-7, the Vian Wolverines erased an early deficit to knock off the Lincoln Christian Bulldogs 41-24 Friday to stay unbeaten and to take prime position for a district title.
The Bulldogs took 7-0 lead early on a 19-yard touchdown reception by Chad Blume, but Vian immediately responded with a n80-yard scoring drive, capped off by a two-yard touchdown run by Landon Decker. The Wolverines missed the extra point and trailed 7-6.
Zack Simmons answered for the Bulldogs, returning the ensuing kickoff 85 yards to score to take a 14-6 advantage in the first quarter.
After the opening fireworks, the game remained relatively quiet until the closing moments of the second quarter, as Rowdy Simon scored from seven yards out and Tre Locust was on the receiving end of the two-point conversion.
Lincoln Christian fumbled the ball in the final minute of the quarter, which Vian recovered. The Wolverines completed a 23-yard touchdown pass to take a 21-14 lead into halftime.
The Bulldogs kicked a 27-yard field goal in the early moments of the third quarter, but those would be the last points of the night for Lincoln Christian.
Vian scored 20 unanswered points to put the game away and secure the top spot in district, the Wolverines will now host the Panama Razorbacks, while Lincoln Christian will travel to Newkirk.
