TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa Police say more than 30 shots were fired in Wednesday's fatal northside shooting, but they're not sure if the man who died was the target.
The shooting in the 700 block of East 42nd Street North left 26-year-old Ernest Dixon dead and three others wounded.
Ed Kimbrough was on his porch when dozens of shots echoed through the 700 block of East 42nd Street North. Four guys were hit and Ed could hear the screams.
"They were hollering for help, you know, ‘call 911, somebody, call the police.' That's all me and my brother could hear," said Ed Kimbrough, Neighbor.
Tulsa Police say the four victims were sitting in front of a home when another group of guys walked up and opened fire. They shot off more than 30 rounds in what investigators are calling an organized attack.
"Started almost with suppression fire and then moved up and tactically moved into a position where they could actually shoot and injure several people," said Tulsa Police Sgt Dave Walker.
Dixon, who lived at the house, died from his injuries. He had drug and gun convictions and police believe this may be a gang-related crime.
"That particular house has been the scene of several shootings and drivebys," Walker said.
The three other victims survived, but police say they aren't being much help.
"Not being cooperative. We think and we believe that they have knowledge of who did this," Walker said.
Police don't know if Dixon was the intended target, or someone who lives with him. Ed says gunfire in this neighborhood is nothing new.
"You hear a shooting every night, but like I say, it's just sad to me," Kimbrough said.
Community members are holding a crime prevention rally next Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Generation of Destiny Community Center located at 4601 North Peoria.
Police say they'll be watching for possible retaliation for Dixon's death.
