SAND SPRINGS, Oklahoma -- A 15-year-old girl has been arrested in an attempted robbery that put an 85-year-old woman in the hospital.
The attempted purse snatching took place Thursday morning at the Sand Springs WalMart, according to Sand Springs Assistant Chief of Police Mike Carter. The robbery left the elderly victim with injuries to her face and head.
"It's a cowardly act. Anyone who will go and victimize an elderly lady like that it is definitely something that is cowardly," Carter said.
An off-duty police officer recognized the vehicle and suspect from surveillance video, leading the police to arrest the juvenile female. An adult relative who may have driven the vehicle used in the crime is also under investigation, Carter said.
"It was the close relationship that we have with the citizens in our community as well as the hard work of our officers which has led to this apprehension," Carter said.
The 15-year-old has been connected to another purse snatching that took place in the store on September 4. She has been booked on complaints of felony larceny from a person (on September 4), felony attempted robbery by force (on Thursday) and an outstanding warrant for domestic assault and battery.
