TULSA, Oklahoma – The Golden Hurricane's opener against the Sooners was a big time game, but it was by no means the most important game of their season.
Success for Tulsa has come through beating conference opponents and making its way to the Conference USA Championship game.
And to get there, it has to start with Tulane.
Tulsa hits the road to face the Green Wave this weekend and the game against OU is already in the rearview mirror.
The Golden Hurricane has won the past six games against Tulane and won them easily – by an average of 36 points per contest.
But running back Dexter McCoil said those wins don't mean anything this season.
"Anybody can get beat at any time," he said. "So we can't go into this game thinking, ‘Oh we've beat them the last couple years, so we're just going to win this game.' It's not going to be that easy."
News On 6's Keith Leventhal was in Tulsa to get the players' and coaches' thoughts on the conference opener.
