TULSA, Oklahoma -- Friday the Tulsa Golden Hurricane lost its top receiving threat indefinitely, after two-time NCAA all-purpose yardage leader Damaris Johnson's girlfriend was arrested on a complaint of felony embezzlement.
The Golden Hurricane now has to rely on three relatively unproven options in their spread offense, sophomores Thomas Roberson and Jordan James, along with junior Ricky Johnson. In their combined four seasons, the trio has amassed 745 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 53 catches.
However, the young trio still expects to make a big impact, not only for TU, but on the national level as well.
"We're going to rely on a bunch of guys; probably six, seven or eight guys," Roberson said. "If I'm working extra I'm trying to get the other guys to work extra. We're going for the best receiving corps in America."
Tulsa has a week of preparation to get their crew ready, with a season-opening matchup against in-state rival Oklahoma looming on Sept. 3.
