High school or college?

Are you more eager for the start of college or high school football? I'm curious.

I have spent time working in Florida, Louisiana and Oklahoma… all hotbeds for both levels of pigskin. Oddly enough, not everyone in every area of each state cares for the college game as much as the prep level, or vice versa. Obviously there are fans of both levels of football, but if you had to pick one or the other, which would you rather watch?

Me, I'm college all the way. I enjoy high school because of the huge number of people who are glued to the fields on Friday night and rely on us to deliver the scores and stats each week. I also don't get into it nearly as much as Saturday football because there is just something about Saturdays that I crave.

I went to the University of South Florida in Tampa and loved watching my team. It was an uphill battle for the Bulls to get fans in the stands, though, because of the mountains of Gators, Seminoles and ‘Canes fans around that state. That area was 90% college fanatics, 10% high school honks… and there is some great high school talent in that area. The nation's top running back according to Rivals.com this year went to Plant High School, two blocks down the road from the Buccaneers' stadium.

In Lafayette, LA., where I worked for a year, it was just the opposite. Nearly ALL of the fans were crazy for high school. I did sideline reports for a local FOX affiliate and the stands were jammed full at every game we went to all season. It was standing room only! There is a university there in town. OSU will host those ULL Ragin' Cajuns in Week 1, but it was predominantly high school centric. Now, down the road an hour in Baton Rouge, where LSU plays, it's the other way around. In Tiger town, it's 80% college and 20% high school fans. (That may even be a generous high school guess.)

So what is it here in Tulsa? I know how much you love your Sooners, Cowboys and Golden Hurricane. I do, too. But, are you more fanatical about high school football than I am picking up on? In the two years I've been here, I have kind of figured this town to be 70% college fans and 30% high school fans.
