TULSA, Oklahoma -- A young man was killed while hanging out of the passenger window of a car early Sunday morning in Tulsa. Police say the victim struck his head on a guardrail when the driver lost control of the car.
Two young men in their late teens to early 20s were in a gray Honda Civic driving westbound on 11th Street just past Mingo at about 3:30 a.m., according to Sergeant John Adams of the Tulsa Police Department.
"There were two occupants, both of them appear to be intoxicated," Adams said. "For whatever reason – we're not sure – it looks like the passenger was hanging out of the vehicle."
At the Mingo bridge, the driver lost control of the car. The Civic struck the wall of the bridge, crossed into the other lane riding up that side of the bridge, then went back into the westbound lane where it hit the guardrail again.
The victim's body was found over 100 feet from the car. Police believe the driver may have carried his friend away from the bridge.
No other vehicles were involved. Police took the driver into custody for questioning and to test blood alcohol levels.
