JENKS, Oklahoma – It’s no secret that the state of Oklahoma produces some of the best high school football players in the country. Now, one of those players is being honored on a national stage.

Jenks running back Alex Ross is a nominee to play in the US Army All-American Bowl. Ross is one of roughly 100 nominees nationwide.

He earned this honor after a stellar year in 2010. His season started with him only playing defensive end, but because of injuries and hard work, he found himself in the backfield as the season progressed. And when it was over, he had rushed for 1600 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Thanks to that outstanding year, Ross is now one of the top two or three recruits in the state and possibly one of the top 50 in the country. However, he’s already committed to playing at OU after his days at Jenks are done.

Ross says “it feels good” to be a nominee and that he “didn’t even expect to get it”. He also said he was “really caught off guard” when his coaches told him about the honor. Since Ross has already committed to a college, already had an outstanding season, and already been recognized on a national level, there’s only one thing left to do. When asked what was left to accomplish, Ross simply said, “Win state”.

Now, Ross will have to wait to see if he makes the cut for the final All-American team. The list of nominees will eventually be pared down to the top 40. Those athletes will be notified in the fall if they’ve made the final team. The 2012 US Army All-American Bowl will take place in early 2012 in San Antonio.
