OSSAA Passes Public/Non-Public Committee Recommendations

OKLAHOMA CITY – The OSSAA passed recommendations from the public/non-public committee Wednesday that could lead schools in Class 4A or lower to be bumped into higher classes.

In short, the recommendations will lead schools to be placed in a higher class if they meet certain requirements and are particularly dominant in a certain sport. Any school that meets three of the following four criteria will become eligible for a move up in class:

1) The school has the ability to decline admission, even if the applicant resides with the public school district or designated geographic area within which the school is located.

2) The school is located within a 15-mile radius of a school placed in the 5A or 6A classification according to ADM.

3) Fewer than 25 percent of the children enrolled at the school in grades 9-12 qualify for free or reduced lunches.

4) The school’s ADM in grades nine through 12 has increased by 50 percent or more over the previous three years.
