OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Bishop McGuinness Irish named Justin Jones as their new head coach Wednesday.
Jones, who spent three seasons with the Woodward Boomers, will immediately start working to establish relationships with his new team.
“It’s a new era of McGuinness football, and that’s a good thing,” Jones said. “We’re going maintain and get even better.”
Justin Jones replaces Kenny Young, who stepped down this February, after a decade with the program. While Jones realizes he has big shoes to fill, he’s looking forward to the opportunity to take what’s worked in the past and develop it as his own.

“We’ll go in and evaluate what they were doing and try to mesh a lot of the terminology and things that are already in place. I don’t want to reinvent the wheel, they were successful,” Jones said. “It’s getting the kids adjusted to new terminology, understanding how our offensive system works and defensive system works.
“We’ll make it our own product.”
Jones was offered and accepted the coaching position, all in the same day. It didn’t take him long to make his decision on leading the football program at one of the state’s most upstanding schools. To him, it’s about both what the student athletes learn on the field and in the classroom.
“One of the things McGuinness does that is very unique to them is set the standards very high,” Coach Jones said. “I think that every person at that school is held to those standards and that only helps when you’re trying to establish or maintain or add to a program.”
“I feel very blessed and very fortunate to be in the position I am,” Jones said. “I’m overwhelmed and over joyous. I’m very happy with the way it all worked out. Now it’s time to go to work.”
