MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- Perkins-Tryon had a good year, they had one goal all season: to win a state title. Morris nearly achieved that last season, but fell in the semifinals.
Both the No. 8 Lady Eagles and No. 5 Lady Demons flew into the 3A state tournament, where Morris flew into a wall, as Perkins ended their season with a 50-42 victory Thursday in Midwest City.
A fast paced first quarter ended with Morris on top 13-8, the Lady Eagles increased it to 19-12 in the second quarter, but a 8-3 Perkins run made it a 22-20 halftime ballgame.
The height and size of the Lady Demons was too much for Morris to handle, Perkins got a 15-2 run, a 35-28 third quarter lead, and nearly all the momentum. Morris fought back, getting within three points several times, but Perkins always answered, and the Lady Demons were the ones to advance in the wake of a 50-42 win, while the Lady Eagles’ year ended in a long two hour journey back home.
