OKLAHOMA CITY -- No. 1 Hammon continued its undefeated run to a Gold Ball Thursday with a 79-37 win over the Pittsburg Lady Panthers in the Class B quarterfinals.
The Lady Warriors’ full-court defense was just too much early on, forcing Pittsburg into bad shots and turnovers. In addition to the pressure, Hammon capitalized on their offensive opportunities early on.
Led by junior Lexie Brown, the Lady Warriors scored the game’s first nine points, which extended to a 25-4 run that lasted the entire opening eight minutes.
Pittsburg’s only first quarter points came on a pair of free throws by senior Taylor Billingsley and a layup by fellow senior Cherokee Anderson.
Despite the 21-point lead, Hammon continued its press defense, while pushing the pace on offense. Brown continued to set the pace for the Lady Warriors in the second quarter, adding five to her game-high total, leading Hammon to a 54-17 halftime lead.
The junior guard finished the game with a game-high 23 points, coming out for the game for good with a minute left in the third quarter.
Hammon will continue its quest for an undefeated Class B State Championship at noon Friday against Erick, who is coming off of a close win over Deer Creek-Lamont.
