YUKON, Oklahoma -- Starting in the fall of 2011, the Yukon Millers will have some new digs.
After a bond measure was approved in 2008 and an 18-month planning period, construction is underway of the new high school campus in Yukon, Okla.
Seated on Mustang Road – which soon will be known as Yukon Pkwy – will be the 110-acre campus that will house a new high school and eventually competition fields for all of its sports.
According to Yukon Public Schools athletic director David Fisher, due to the demands of the construction not everything can be physically completed at once.
“We will come back a little later and build two competition softball fields, build another competition baseball field and put in eight tennis courts, Fisher said.
Once the construction is complete, the Millers will be the only high school in the state that has every athletic venue on campus, meaning players will only have to travel for away games.
The new campus, which will cost an estimated $82 mil, will feature a more than 35,000 square foot school, a 3,200 seat basketball gym and a football stadium featuring a $2 mil press box.
