The hardwood heated up last week across the state of Oklahoma in high school hoops action. Check out the latest boys and girls rankings and read about the shakeups and shifts from the past week in this week’s Rankings Remix.
Class 6A:
Boys: Union was the week's big mover, cashing in an impressive 74-51 victory over Muskogee to help propel the Redskins up three slots to fourth. Meanwhile, Putnam City continued to struggle, falling to 7-8 on the season with losses to Yukon and Edmond Santa Fe while slipping three positions to eighth. Putnam North dropped decisions to Mustang and Putnam West and fell from the poll along with Bixby, which fell to Muskogee and Broken Arrow. Those losses opened the door for Del City to return to the rankings at number nine with an 8-4 mark while Putnam West also joined the poll for the first time at 10th with a 7-5 record.
Girls: There was little movement at the top, but Jenks continued its surge, moving up to sixth after a perfect week, swapping slots with Norman North, a 50-41 loser at the hands of third-rated Edmond Memorial. Del City and Stillwater each suffered losses to Midwest City and McGuinness respectively, but held firm at ninth and 10th.
Class 5A:
Boys: Ardmore's struggles continued as the Tigers have now lost four of their last six games, including a 55-50 defeat to Lawton Mac, and dropped from second to fourth this week. Tulsa East Central also slid three positions to sixth after a 60-47 setback against Tulsa Central. Those losses opened the door for Northwest Classen, which jumped from fifth to second after a 77-76 overtime triumph over new third-ranked McGuinness. Tulsa Central meanwhile checks in fifth. Guthrie is back in the Top 10 at the eighth spot following a 45-38 win against El Reno, which slips one position to ninth. Shawnee also checks in at No. 10 with a 10-3 record after dumping previous number 10 Carl Albert, 79-68.
Girls: Western Heights leveled at 7-7 on the season with a 43-38 loss to Deer Creek and drops two positions to eighth in this week's poll. That allowed Carl Albert to inch up one slot to sixth and Skiatook to climb three positions to seventh after stopping Bishop Kelley, 61-56 .... Kelley falls to ninth and Durant moves to No. 10.
Class 4A:
Boys: Cascia Hall moves up one notch to seventh and unbeaten Roland climbs two positions to eighth. Those jumps were aided by Piedmont losing to Western Heights, 46-43, to slide two positions to ninth while Tulsa McLain fell to Booker T. Washington, 67-43, and dropped one slot to No. 10. This week's rankings newcomer is 9-4 Bristow, which capitalized on a 36-34 victory against Mannford to move into 14th while Mannford slips two notches to number 15. Harrah fell out of the poll after losing to El Reno, 76-37.
Girls: Cache held onto to number one after a thrilling 56-55 victory over Anadarko, but despite the loss, Anadarko climbs one position to fourth, swapping places with Weatherford. Wagoner's 76-53 loss to second-rated Vinita cost the Lady Bulldogs two positions to No. 11, swapping placed with 11-2 Cushing.
Class 3A:
Boys: A 71-67 loss to McAlester cost Hugo a spot, slipping to fourth while 10-1 Mount St. Mary moves up one position to third. Victory Christian also climbed one notch to seventh, swapping slots with Prague, which fell to Tecumseh, 54-48. There were several shifts in the lower third of the rankings as Nowata improved to 10-1 and climbs four positions to No. 11 after losses by Purcell, Seq. Tahlequah, Lincoln Christian and Coalgate.
Girls: It was business as usual in the Top 10 as the only loss amongst the bunch came from Northeast, which fell to Class 2A's No. 1 Millwood, 56-49, but still held at seventh. Sulphur's surprising 46-31 defeat against rival Davis caused some shakeups in the lower third of the rankings as the Lady Bulldogs fell four positions to 15th. Pawhuska also drops out of the poll with a 33-23 loss to Newkirk, opening the door for 7-3 Beggs to move in at 14th.
Class 2A:
Boys: The only movement in this week's rankings comes in the lower third where Thomas slips from No. 10 to No. 14 after a 49-48 loss to Okarche. Summit Christian suffered the only other defeat among the ranked squads, losing 62-48 to Class A Stuart, but holds at No. 15.
Girls: In the only contest of the week involving ranked teams in 2A, third-ranked Snyder held firm at its position with a 46-40 victory over Cordell, which slipped two positions to No.13. Pawnee falls out of the poll from No. 14, losing to Newkirk, 38-34. That opened the door for 10-1 Walters to move into the rankings for the first time this season.
Class A:
Boys: Cheyenne capitalized on a 60-36 victory over Vici to climb a notch from eighth to seventh in this week's poll, swapping places with Velma-Alma, who lost to 2A Walters, 76-60. Vici's loss drops the Indians two positions to No. 11, allowing Smithville to climb two notches to ninth with three straight wins over ranked opponents, including a 44-42 triumph against Class B power Red Oak. Glencoe also climbed two places to the bottom slot in the Top 10. Previously No. 10 ranked Sterling falls to No. 14 after a 42-39 loss to Verden, which moves up to No. 13. Binger-Oney dropped out of the poll from No. 15, losing to Lookeba-Sickles, 70-58, opening the door for 11-2 Kiefer.
Girls: Cyril’s stay at number one was only short-lived as the Lady Pirates fell to Apache, 61-54, dropping back to second while Calumet reclaimed it's top slot in the poll. Injury-staggered Okarche was smacked 59-42 by Thomas and slips three positions to eighth, allowing Chattanooga, Frontier and Amber-Pocasset to move up one notch apiece.
Class B:
Boys: Forgan forged into the top position in the rankings for the first time this season with a 16-2 record, swapping slots with Red Oak, which fell to Smithville, 44-42, to drop to 15-4 on the year. Elsewhere, Burlington's struggles continued a bit with a 41-40 loss to Medford and the Elks slip five positions to ninth, just behind Medford, which moves up from No. 10. Timberlake slides from ninth to No. 13 after a 47-45 loss to unranked Drummond.
Girls: Red Oak holds firmly at number three despite a 37-31 loss to 2A Howe. Deer Creek-Lamont wasn't quite as fortunate, falling one position to eighth after a 33-24 defeat at the hands of sixth-rated Timberlake. Coupled with Canute's 53-41 loss to Sentinel, which cost the Trojanettes one position to ninth, Mulhall-Orlando was the benefactor with a two slot climb to seventh with its 15-3 record. Forgan rejoined the rankings at No. 13 after posting impressive wins over Balko (40-39) and Buffalo (47-32). Balko slips three positions to No. 15 while Buffalo fell completely out of this week's poll.
