East Central Adances to 5A Finals With 15-Point Win

NORMAN, Oklahoma – The East Central Cardinals advanced to the 5A state championship Friday with a 30-15 victory over the MacArthur Highlanders.

The Cardinals (12-1) got on the board first with a field goal by Antonio Escobedo, and Donta Burge added a 4-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to stretch that lead to 10-0. Escobedo added another field goal later in the half to give East Central a 13-0 lead at halftime.

MacArthur (10-3) got on the board in the third quarter and added a two-point conversion, but never truly threatened. Both teams added touchdowns in the game’s final five minutes to finish the scoring.

The Cardinals will advance to face the Booker T. Washington Hornets, making the 5A final a Tulsa affair. East Central will be trying to prevent BTW from winning its second title in three years.
