Guthrie Cruises into Second Round

Blue Jays handle Durant Lions, 35-6.

GUTHRIE, Oklahoma – The Guthrie Blue Jays had no trouble in the first round, blowing by the Durant Lions 35-6 on Friday.

Guthrie struck first in the first quarter, but Durant (5-6) came back to pull to within 7-6 and keep up at the end of the first.

But from that point on, it was all Blue Jays as Guthrie rolled out four straight touchdowns in the second quarter.

The Blue Jays went up 14-6 with just more than five minutes left in the first half, but then went into overdrive, adding two more touchdowns in the remaining five minutes.

Guthrie coasted in the second half to advance to the second round of the 5A playoffs.

The Blue Jays (10-1) will host Coweta on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
