Westmoore Moves On with Win over Midwest City

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- The Westmoore Jaguars (6-5) provided one of the best round one upsets heading into the playoffs with a one-point victory over the Midwest City Bombers (10-1).

The Bombers were undefeated prior to Friday’s game against the Jags, and were ranked fifth in Class 6A. Westmoore, who narrowly beat Midwest City 14-13, was only 5-5 on the season and weren’t even ranked in the top 10 teams of their class. Normally, the first round of the playoffs weeds out the middle-of-the-road teams when their faced with the top teams in their districts, but the Jags saw an opportunity to prove they had every right to be there as the Bombers.

Neither team wanted their playoff run to end, forcing the game into overtime tied at 7 in the fourth quarter. Midwest City’s defensive back James Flanders scored for the Bombers to bring the score to 13-7.

The Jags answered back with a touchdown after giving the ball to Cody Feuerborn. Westmoore’s kicker, Rami Hanoon, finished from there. With the game tied at 13, Hanoon hit an extra point attempt to advance his team to the second round.

The Westmoore Jaguars will play host to the Owasso Rams, who preserved through five overtimes to move on to round two.
