TULSA, Oklahoma – The transition from Jenks’ assistant to Bixby’s main man, was a relatively smooth one for Loren Montgomery.
“It’s been a big transition for me personally,” he smiled before a preseason practice. “I know my family as well as this team.”
The Spartans’ new general isn’t just kicking up his feet in Bixby’s new athletics facility. He’s hard at work doing the little things he didn’t have to do before his move across town.
“When I was an interim guy, I didn’t have to do any of the planning or anything like that,” he explained. “Coach (Allan) Trimble had already taken care of that and was already in place. Now, I’ve had to experience the offseason planning and the things that go along with that.”
The works seems to have paid off so far. In early season scrimmages, the head coach thinks this year’s crop of players has a shot at another march towards a gold ball, much like it did last year in 5A.
“The kids have done a tremendous job,” said Montgomery. “They’re in great shape and excited about football.
Once you get to this point, you can kind of start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. They can start getting into a routine with school and practice and game week and everything like that. They’re ready to go.”
