TULSA, Oklahoma – There are hundreds of high school football teams in Oklahoma, and only eight of them raised a gold ball trophy to the sky in 2009. All of them fought hard, persevered and escaped the playoffs as champions.
We gathered three of the head coaches that led teams to a title a year ago for a round table discussion about what ingredients are required to win it all. Tulsa Union head coach Kirk Fridrich, Cascia Hall head coach Joe Medina and Lincoln Christian head coach Darren Melton all sat down with Oklahoma Sports’s Bobby Lewis to talk about their teams, winning titles and, hopefully, repeating as champions.
2009 STATE CHAMPS
6A – Union Redskins
5A – Carl Albert Titans
4A – Star Spencer Bobcats
3A – Cascia Hall Commandos
2A – Lincoln Christian Bulldogs
A – Tonkawa Buccaneers
B – Garber Wolverines
