GUTHRIE, Oklahoma – Kentrell Brothers is receiving plenty of attention at Guthrie High School and rightfully so. The Blue Jays senior is considered to be one the top college football recruits for 2011 in the state of Oklahoma.
The talented linebacker is bringing in assistant coaches from all over the country. An assistant from Iowa State and Kansas State stopped by on Friday to watch him practice.
The attention Brothers is drawing is giving other Blue Jay players a chance to show their stuff, like wide receiver Devonte McCully.
The recruiting buzz surrounding McCully has not developed, but that could change by the end of the summer. He is a big target and looms over defenders on the practice field. The senior stands 6-foot-6 and intends to add 10-15 pounds over the off-season.
“It’s still early for me,” McCully said. But I’m hoping to get somewhere.”
Besides adding some pounds this summer, McCully intends to work on his speed and ability to receive the ball.
