OKLAHOMA CITY – Pitching was the name of the game in the 2A state baseball playoffs Thursday, with two different pitchers tossing two-hit shutouts.
Oktaha 9, Mangum 0
Oktaha used great pitching and power hitting to breeze past Mangum.
The starting pitcher threw a gem, surrendering just two hits. Meanwhile, his teammates blasted two big home runs, including a grand slam.
Shane Leach started the scoring early, with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first to take the lead. After adding one more run, Cale Elam broke the game completely open with a grand slam in the bottom of the second.
Oktaha scored seven runs in the first two innings and coasted from there. The Tigers will move on to face Dale at 1 p.m. Friday.
Dale 5, Pioneer-Pleasant Vale 0
Dale pulled out an easy win in the first game of the day thanks to a dominant pitching performance from starter Evan Anderson.
Anderson held Pioneer to only two hits, and his teammates provided five runs for a win that was never in doubt.
