OWASSO, Oklahoma – Muskogee advanced to the 6A state quarterfinals by edging Edmond Memorial 57-53 on Friday night.
Adrion Webber led the way for the Roughers with 14 points and Devante Wilson added 13. Jared Jobe scored 15 for the Bulldogs.
Muskogee struggled out of the gate, missing several shots and putbacks in the first few minutes. After a timeout, the Roughers regained their composure and finally got on the board with a Wilson basket four minutes into the contest. Edmond Memorial maintained its lead throughout the rest of the quarter, however, and went into the second period on top.
Muskogee eventually caught up to Edmond in the second period and the two teams went into the break tied at 22.
The Roughers and Bulldogs remained tied after three periods and battled back and forth until the final seconds. With the Roughers up 55-53 and time ticking down, Dante Wartson stole a Bulldog pass and sealed the deal.
Muskogee now awaits its state quarterfinal opponent, while Edmond Memorial gets another shot at the state tournament on Saturday.
