Bethel Girls Hold Off Second-Half Push to Beat McLoud

Bethel took a 14-point lead into halftime, but McLoud stormed back to make it a game late.

MCLOUD, Oklahoma – The Bethel girls’ basketball team won a low-scoring affair 38-30 over McLoud Friday to hold on to its No. 3 ranking in Class 3A.

The Lady Wildcats jumped out a huge lead early in the game and went into halftime with a 22-8 advantage. Bethel sophomore Taylor Cooper scored 10 points in the first half, but sustained a right knee injury in the second quarter and did not return.

Bethel built its lead to as much as 17 points in the third quarter, but McLoud went on a 10-point run to cut the lead to 27-20 going into the fourth quarter. McLoud pulled within six points, but never got closer than that.

Heather Mullendore finished with 13 points to lead Bethel, while Kiley Newson led McLoud with 12 points.
