MOORE, Oklahoma -- There was a time when Kendal Thompson’s commitment to Oklahoma seemed unlikely. However, that time came and went quickly.
“I used to try to go against OU when I was younger,” Thompson said. “When I was about 10 I finally started liking them. I was just a rebel.”
The Southmoore SaberCat committed to OU in November and is slated to follow in his father, Charles, footsteps as a Sooner quarterback. Kendal was raised around the atmosphere in Norman, which is one reason why he chose Oklahoma as a junior.
“That’s just a good place to be,” Thompson said. “I grew up around there and that’s where I wanted to go.”
Despite his early commitment Thompson is still hearing from several schools. Even though Alabama, LSU, Miami and Stanford keep in contact, he tells them all the same thing.
“I tell them I’m committed to OU,” Thompson said. “But just in case something happens, I’ll get back in touch with you.”
Thompson said he plans to major in sports medicine and is considering becoming a trainer after football.
