TULSA, Oklahoma -- The high school football playoffs are here, where rhythm and hitting the right notes could mean hoisting the gold ball during the holiday season.

“When it comes to crunch time, you’ve got to get serious, so we try and do that,” said Lincoln Christian wide receiver Roman Wilson.

Wilson perfects Christmas carols in chorus class; hits the books in classes like AP English, Economics and Anatomy. He even catches touchdown passes for the Lincoln Christian football team, making him a modern-day Renaissance man.

“How a kid is in one area of his life, usually you find that it follows in other areas of his life,” said Lincoln Christian head coach Darren Melton. “You can see that come through in his academics and extra-curricular activities. They kind of just mirror one another.”

On the field, Wilson is one of the best wide receivers in the state. Off the field, he has a passion for playing guitar and singing.

“I have a pretty high voice as you can tell, but I love hitting the high notes,” said Wilson, who ranks second in 2A scoring with 12 touchdowns.. “It can be embarrassing but I take pride in it.”

Wilson has a 4.01 GPA, a high class ranking and football skills to boot. He also has plenty of college choices including Ivy League programs like Harvard and Dartmouth.

“I think the sky is the limit for Roman,” Melton said. “He can go Ivy League, he can help someone at any level and it’s just going to be a matter of somebody coming out and seeing that they can help their football team.”

He might even be able to help them hit the high notes too.
