MOORE, Oklahoma – Eisenhower kicker Colton Rancourt went from goat to hero in a matter of minutes against Westmoore Thursday.
With Lawton Ike (3-6, 2-4) down 14-7, Louis Durant scored on a five-yard touchdown run and the Eagles seem ready to tie the score. But Rancourt missed the ensuing extra point, allowing Westmoore to hold on to a 14-13 lead.
Eisenhower kept the Jaguars from scoring on the next drive, and the Eagles drove inside the 20-yard line with time winding down. Rancourt then redeemed himself by hitting a 35-yard field goal on the Eagles’ final play of the game to earn a 16-14 win.
That field goal did not just give Lawton Ike a win. It also ended the playoff hopes of Westmoore (3-6, 2-4). If the Jaguars had been able to defeat Eisenhower and upset Edmond North next week, they could have earned the fourth playoff spot in District 6A-2.
Eisenhower will try to finish the season on a high note next week against Norman (4-4, 3-2).
