TULSA, Oklahoma – After three weeks of football, the Victory Christian Conquerors don’t have much to show for their efforts.
VC head coach Brent Marley’s squad dropped the opener to Okmulgee, 14-7. The Conquerors held on in a tight game from the opening kick but couldn’t find a way to stop the Bulldogs when they needed a big play. The loss was painful but it left Victory Christian feeling good about their chances going forward.
Unfortunately for them, the next two weeks weren’t as close.
Holland Hall took care of Victory Christian in Week 2, 41-14, and then Tahlequah Sequoyah thumped them even worse 54-6 the next Friday. Even though they haven’t started as hot as they would have liked, Marley says all of the team’s goals are still in front of them.
“The main thing is they still believe,” said the Conquerors’ 8th year coach. “Anything is possible when you do that.”
The Conquerors may have their toughest test of the year ahead of them this week. They host the defending 3A state champions, Cascia Hall, this Friday night. Cascia Hall is 2-0 after beating Holland Hall and Edison by a combined score of 67-7.
The game Friday night marks the opener to district play in Class 3A. Kickoff is set for 7:30.
