SKIATOOK, Oklahoma – The seniors on this year’s Skiatook squad think this could finally be the year that the Bulldogs make it back to the postseason.
It’s been a while. 2004 was the last time the Skiatook played in the postseason. None of the current Bulldogs were on that squad and look to change that this season.
The Bulldogs have a good offensive core and a solid line to protect senior quarterback Drake Keys (5'11", 175 lbs). Senior guard John Sizemore (6'2", 260 lbs) knows the potential for this year’s senior group is high.
“We want to be the senior class that changes the culture back to winning,” said the senior lineman. “We want to be that class.”
Getting back to the postseason will be tough for Skiatook. The Bulldogs have the talent to do it but so do the other teams on their schedule. The Bulldogs may be able to navigate through the first half of their schedule without too many problems but the final month of their slate is fierce. Skiatook gets Bishop Kelley, Bixby, last year’s 5-A state champions, Booker T. Washington and Will Rogers to round out the season. That stretch could spell doom if things don’t go according to plan early on in the season.
Skiatook opens the season on the road against Hilldale Friday, September 4th.
