Records Broken This Morning and This Afternoon!

Our day started off by setting a record and we set another record this afternoon. Not only that, but our average temperature so far this summer is running ahead of the record hot summer of 1980, and what is typically the hottest part of the summer is still ahead of us.

There is a glimmer of hope that we may get a little more moisture up this way during the Fri, Sat, Sun time frame which in turn would result in more cloudiness and at least a slight chance of showers or storms. But, that largely depends on the ultimate destiny of Tropical Storm Don which just formed this afternoon in the Gulf of Mexico. Current projections would take TS Don well south of us across Texas and ultimately into New Mexico, but these systems can be notoriously fickle. Also, some of the extra moisture it brings into Texas should make it into Oklahoma resulting in a little more cloud cover and the possibility of rain that I mentioned.

That combination will also knock at least a few degrees off the daytime heating, perhaps enough to even keep some of us below triple digits on Fri, Sat , or Sun. The locations most likely to be affected will be the more SE counties and the more terrain favored locations of E OK.

If Don does not give us a break, then it is hard to see when the next opportunity will come along. Ridging aloft remains dominant going into next week so any relief from the heat will be short lived. In fact, temperatures well above 100 are expected again by early next week.
