TULSA, Oklahoma -- In an effort to improve at the unofficial halfway mark of the season, the Tulsa Shock signed former Oklahoma standout Abi Olajuwon and waived veteran Marion Jones, the team announced Thursday.
Olajuwon played four years for the Sooners from 2006-2010, her best showing coming in her senior season. In 2010, she averaged 10.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest as part of an OU team that made a trip to the Final Four.
To make room for Olajuwon on the roster, the Shock waived guard Marion Jones after a two-year stint with the team. This season, Jones has appeared in 14 of Tulsa's 15 contests, but averages just 6.5 minutes and .7 points per contest.
Tulsa will be back in action Tuesday, July 26, after the end of the WNBA All-Star Break.
