VERDIGRIS, Oklahoma---The Verdigris Fire Department took a call Wednesday from a woman concerned about a duck.

‘She let us know that the duck was injured and couldn't get off the road,' said Fire Chief Mike Shaffer, ‘we realized immediately that the duck was having issues with heat exposure.'

With knowledge gleaned from the Internet they fashioned a splint for ‘Quackers' broken foot, re hydrated him and had him swimming happily in a fire department bucket.

‘He kind of got used to people apparently because he was very mild-mannered,' said Mike.

Quackers was transported to Wild Heart Ranch in Claremore for rehabilitation. He should live out his life there, says Director Annette Tucker.
