A couple of topics to blog about this week: First, ESPY honors.
I was on the sidelines in the endzone watching during the 2010 Bedlam game. When Brodrick Brown leaped out of bounds to bat the Landry Jones pass back into the field of play so that Shaun Lewis could snatch his SECOND interception of the first half, I nearly screamed out in shock.
And I don't do that! I've never been one to scream and yell at a sporting event. Maybe a cheer here and there but, overall, I'm pretty calm at games. I don't get that excited or worked up. But, that play made me go bonkers!
I'd like to think I'm an objective journalist. I don't care who wins the Bedlam game each year, but that play had me thinking, ‘wow. There is no way OU can win tonight'. I was wrong… but that was the best play I'd seen in a while.
Until, Blake Griffin dunked over a 7-foot dude. (Oh boy. The screaming on the video is annoying, but worth it) That was a joke. He rose up over a foreign tree of a man and slammed on him, his mom, his auntie and his great grandkids at the same time. It was unreal. The ENTIRE arena gasped because they didn't know what to do!! It was like Vince Carter in the Olympics years ago. It was unbelievable. He oozes athleticism.
Those two plays are part of the ESPY awards this year… ESPN's latest attempt to rule the world. You can vote on which play is the best and then watch a long, drawn-out, unnecessarily droll 3-hour TV award show complete with athletes wearing sneakers with their tuxedos. But, if one of those two plays wins Play of the Year, then it might make the whole night of watching sports stars try to be fashionistas worth it.
I'm going to watch because I HAVE to see if one of these two plays wins the award. If I had a vote, which we all do, I lean towards the Blake Show…although it's a TOUGH call.
