Tulsa Neighbors Frustrated Over Eyesore Home

TULSA, Oklahoma -- One bad house in an otherwise nice neighborhood can be a real nuisance. Some Tulsa neighbors say their eyesore went from being a nuisance to a danger when police found a meth lab inside. Now, they want the city to do something.

"My grandparents lived here their whole lives. Most people's parents lived here and now they live here. We all look out for each other and like each other and if someone is sick, there are people to help, if someone gets hurt, there are plenty of us to help. We just want something done," Amber said.

They want something done about a house at 717 North Sandusky, a rental house they say is an eyesore. The house has had no gas, electricity, or water for some time, but someone was living there, using a generator and bootlegging power.

"Got to be where people were going in and out all the time and stay five minutes and were leaving," Rebekah said.

They say police came by a couple weeks ago and the man took off running. Officers found a meth lab inside.

"I was at church, getting calls about a meth lab," Debbie said.

That's when their eyesore turned into a safety issue. They didn't want an explosion or fire, like has happened with other labs.

"We called the mayors action line and the police several times but couldn't get a straight answer," Amber said.

News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright did find a notice taped to the gate from the City of Tulsa, declaring the home a nuisance and giving the owner ten days to respond.

The owner told News On 6 it was just one pot in the shed out back and that police told him they cleaned it out. He said he spent his retirement money to buy some lots in that neighborhood to create a sustainable community, but that house has been a hiccup.

He said he's had some bad renters and spent a lot of money after someone broke his windows and knocked holes in the walls. He said he will sell it, fix it up or bulldoze it and will respond to the city's letter.

He said he's trying to make the world a better place, one house at a time, but maybe bit off more than he could chew with this property.
