Congratulations to my friend and colleague Toby Rowland on becoming "Voice of the Sooners." I remember our days calling play by play in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Toby for Southern Nazarene and me for Phillips University.
You are deserving, you are talented and you have earned it. You have a rare combination of hard work, perspective and creativity. Those are things that all of us who know you admire and are things that Sooner fans will appreciate for the next 30 years.
There is no substitute for experience this time of year as the OU women proved once again on Tuesday night. When their second-round game with Miami got tight, they gave it to the senior Danielle Robinson who was playing in her 13th NCAA tournament game. Robinson gave the Sooners 6 straight points and a lead they would never relinquish. And now the Sooners head to their third-straight Sweet 16.
OSUs basketball team has the chance to be explosive next season, but they have to find some help inside. With LeBryan Nash signed and Cezar Guererro committed, there is significant scoring punch coming to Stillwater. You add those two to the emerging Markel Brown and Jean-Paul Olukemi. Factor in that Michael Cobbins would have contributed this season had he been healthy and able to pick things up from the get go. Keiton Page will return for his senior season and should thrive when not forced to shoulder so much of offensive load. Reger Dowell had a solid final 7 games at the point.
But Marshall Moses and Matt Pilgrim played their last OSU game Monday night. Darrell Williams remains suspended pending legal issues, Jared Shaw has had moments, but hasnt put it all together. Roger Franklin battles, but is undersized. The Cowboys dont need much, but a man in the middle would help.
