Jerry Palm has been pretty consistent when it comes to picking the field for the NCAA Tournament every year. And Ill admit I was surprised on Wednesday when I saw he had OSU as one of his "First Four Out." I still think the Cowboys have a lot of work left. A loss Saturday at OU and only winning the Big 12 Tournament next week would get them in.
It may still be a long shot, but Palms take is that OSUs RPI and strength of schedule match up with other Big 12 teams like Colorado and Nebraska very favorably, even thought the Cowboys lost to both of them during the regular season. A better, although not terribly strenuous non-conference slate is what's helping give OSU an edge over a few other middle of the pack Big 12 teams in Palms mind.
So is a win in Norman and two more in the Big 12 tourney enough? Or perhaps a close loss to either Kansas or Texas in the 2nd round? Too close to call, but at least the Cowboys are closer to the good side of the bubble in one experts mind than any of us thought.
