If it comes down to managing the whole of the program to keep TU successful, then Bill Blankenship should enjoy keeping the Golden Hurricane at or above the level they’ve enjoyed the past few years under Todd Graham and Steve Kragthorpe.
College Football does revolve around recruiting- make no mistake about it- and I think Blankenship had some interesting things to say about that aspect of things in the wake of his hiring. Seeing the process not just from trying to recruit, but from having his own sons recruited can’t hurt. He knows the importance of having the right coaches in the right places to get the right student-athletes to campus.
Will the Blankenship era prove fruitful? Wish I knew for sure at the moment, but after making the transition from ultra-successful high school coach to college assistant, and having a few years to get his feet wet, at least he knows the drill. And he knows the history at TU, and that can’t hurt.
May 26th, 2011
