Credit the Wall Street Journal for having someone smart enough to take the time to calculate the miles and teams involved when it comes to bowl games and travel. The paper found that in 163 bowl games in the past five years, the team forced to travel farther is 83-80. For the record, Tulsa’s trip to Hawaii on Sunday covered 3,824 miles. Boston College to the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco covers 2,689 as the second-longest trip. If one were to figure the number of miles TU’s offense ran and passed for this season, one would find that taking that amount off the total of the team’s trip to Honolulu would still leave 3,820 and a half.
It’s a long way to the islands, but thanks to the research, there’s hope for those worried that the Rainbow Warriors have a huge home-field advantage.
