I’ve witnessed 57 before on a golf course by a playing partner. I won’t dare give up his name, but we silently mutually agreed to not keep his score on the BACK 9.

Meanwhile, down in Mobile, Alabama, a young man who turns 18 this weekend sped to his 57 over the whole 18 holes at his home course, the Country Club of Mobile, in the 2nd round of the Alabama Boys Junior State Championship.

Bobby Wyatt made 12 birdies, an eagle and five pars for a round of 14-under. And before you think CCofM is some flat, bunkerless, waterless muni, think again. It’s a Donald Ross (Pinehurst No. 2, others) design that while not long (6628 yards) is certainly challenging.

Wyatt will be a freshman at Alabama next month, but first, he has to try and find a way to protect his 8-shot lead with one round to go.

A 56 ought to do it.
