I heard some of what Big 12 basketball coaches said during their summer conference call Monday. Bill Self and others are concerned about 18 league games once Nebraska and Colorado go their separate ways.
Self says 16 is a grind already, and that Big East people he’s talked with think 18 is a bit too much.
It’s just 2 more conference games each season, so what’s the fuss about?
Let’s take Self’s side: 2 more grinders, potentially draining affairs when coaches are trying to make sure their teams are peaking in March.
Let’s not take Self’s side: The fans should LOVE it, and those extra 2 could be the difference for bubble teams making the NCAA Tournament.
As for the thought that it will affect non-conference scheduling: IT’S ONLY 2 MORE GAMES. Don’t put another Coppin State (sorry, Fang) on the home docket. Please.
