As weve said from the beginning, when it comes to college sports realignment, its all about television dollars. Thats one reason why the Orangebloods.com report saying six Big 12 schools may be headed to the Pac-10 makes sense.
The new 16-team Super Conference would cover 7 of the countrys top 20 television markets: Los Angeles, Dallas, San Francisco, Houston, Seattle, Phoenix and Sacramento.
When it comes to television viewing, Im not sure Im crazy about waiting around until midnight to watch the end of an OU at Washington State or OSU at Arizona State hoops game in the middle of February.
However, I do believe a new super conference would bring more television exposure for sports that sorely want and deserve it. And think about what it could mean for some of those sports. Super 16 baseball and softball would be murderous, but who in the Pac-10 wrestles? And who in the Big 12 swims?
All interesting quesions that we may never get the answers to, but its fun to ponder them.
