Several thoughts raced through my mind Friday morning as I learned of Sean Sutton’s arrest.  The mug shot will forever be etched upon my mind.

It’s just sad.  You feel sad for his wife and sons who were already put through the ringer during Sean’s resignation.

You feel sad for his mom and dad.  Your first thought as a parent is “how can I make the pain go away?”  And if you feel partially responsible for your child’s pain, the hurt is even worse.

You feel sad as a person who knows Sean and hoped and thought he was doing better and perhaps on his way back into coaching.  That’s now the furthest thing from his mind.

Sean has thick skin.   You don’t spend your life as the son of a legend, playing for that legend and then coaching in his shadow and not develop that.

Sometimes you’ve gotta hit rock bottom to see the light.  For now Sean needs help and support.  If he gets those things, and he will, there is plenty of hope.

On the eve of Bedlam, we are reminded that there are things that go beyond bragging rights and rivalries.  Cowboy and Sooner fans can both root for a recovery to health for Sean Sutton and his family.
